Revitalizing History
Modern Wedding Venue Design at 1896 St. James Place in Milwaukee, WI
I had the privilege of collaborating closely with the owner of this historic landmark to reimagine and transform it into an expansive wedding venue that beautifully merges historic charm with modern elegance. This project was a true labor of love, seamlessly integrating the original architectural elements with contemporary materials and designs to elevate the overall guest experience.
Drawing inspiration from a journey to London, the client envisioned the design as a reflection of timeless sophistication. The former sanctuary was transformed into “The Abbey,” a stunning central space, while the dining hall became “The Hyde,” an elegant and intimate gathering area. My role included crafting the vision for these spaces, from concept development to overseeing the details that brought each area to life, working with both the venue owner and the architecture firm who built the renovation.
The venue also features several thoughtfully designed spaces, each contributing to the guest journey. We created fully furnished Groom’s and Bridal Suites, ensuring a luxurious and comfortable start to the big day. The monochromatic lobby was designed to pay homage to classic black-and-white aesthetics from 1896, offering a striking first impression. Additionally, the terrace was designed as a versatile outdoor space, perfect for hosting a variety of events under the open sky.
Throughout the project, I worked to harmonize the venue’s historic character with modern touches, crafting a destination that feels both unique and captivating for every guest who walks through its doors. It was an incredible opportunity to blend storytelling, design, and functionality into a space that celebrates both its past and its future.
