Curry turns 30!
I had the distinct pleasure of designing the surprise 30th birthday celebration for Stephen Curry, hosted by the Golden State Warriors at Fort Mason Center. The concept centered on a refined brown-liquor bar, rich, masculine, and intimate, transforming a 100’ x 100’ arena footprint into a hidden, cinematic lounge layered with overstuffed leather seating, industrial metals, distressed wood, and moody, low-slung lighting. The arrival sequence was intentionally theatrical: guests traveled more than 200 feet through the venue before reaching a fully draped interior, building anticipation before passing through a custom-fabricated 16-foot entry door emblazoned with Curry’s initials, a monumental threshold later relocated to his home as a permanent keepsake.
Inside, the environment balanced elevated hospitality with personal storytelling. Curated whiskey tastings and crafted cocktails anchored the theme, while Michelin-star sushi added an unexpected culinary layer. Lounge groupings encouraged conversation among teammates, family, and close friends, creating intimacy within the grand scale. The evening crescendoed with a surprise performance by Paramore, who led an unforgettable rendition of “Happy Birthday,” transforming the lounge into a full-scale concert moment. The result was a celebration that seamlessly merged drama and warmth, theatrical yet deeply personal, crafted to honor one of the game’s most celebrated athletes in a way that felt both iconic and authentic.
